Biography

Belal Hossain is a Ph.D. student at the University of Kansas William Allen School of Journalism & Mass Communications. He earned his bachelor’s in television and film studies from the University of Dhaka and his master’s in communication and media from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He spent seven years working as a journalist at well-respected national media outlets in Bangladesh before moving to the United States. Transitioning from journalism to academia, Belal finds fulfillment in both teaching and research. Through his scholarly work, he asks interesting but difficult questions about the information ecosystem, digital communication technologies, and rural American realities that shape health and well-being of individuals, particularly underserved groups. At KU, Belal received a University Graduate Fellowship for AY2025–2026 and has been chosen for an Institute for Policy & Social Research Doctoral Fellowship for AY2026–2027.
