Biography

Dr. Nazra Izhar is a recent Ph.D. graduate from the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas and a Research Associate at the KU Center for Digital Inclusion. Before pursuing her doctoral studies, she built a diverse career in journalism, higher education, and strategic communication in India, serving as a broadcast journalist, assistant professor, content writer, and creative lead for a nonprofit. These experiences continue to shape her interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching, as well as her commitment to addressing real-world communication challenges.

At the KU Center for Digital Inclusion, Nazra contributes to community-engaged research that advances digital access and information literacy among underserved populations while exploring how communication and emerging technologies can support individuals and communities.

Outside of the KU Center for Digital Inclusion, Nazra’s research examines communication patterns, interactions, and outcomes in culturally diverse and digitally dynamic environments. She investigates how message design, digital platforms, and emerging technologies influence audience interpretation, engagement, and decision-making. Grounded in strategic and intercultural communication, her scholarship aims to strengthen public trust, improve access to reliable information, and develop culturally responsive approaches to addressing contemporary societal challenges. Looking ahead, she plans to expand this work by exploring how communication and emerging technologies can enhance knowledge sharing, build community resilience, and improve responses to public health, environmental, and risk-related issues.
